Allow me to introduce myself
Hey there! I’m Emerald (or Fitz—either name works for me), and I use they/them pronouns. I’m a witch and former political organizer. When I’m not in therapist mode, you can find me writing, getting lost in yarn-related hobbies, gaming cozily, or hanging out as a proud nonbinary cat lady.
What Fuels My Work:
I’m passionate about those moments when someone feels genuinely seen—when neurodivergent validation happens, when we pull tarot cards together to create meaning, and when group therapy blossoms into a vibrant community. These moments are why I do what I do. Fun fact: I started out specializing in LGBTQIA+ issues and so that just naturally lead to my whole caseload being neurodivergent! We love to see it.
A Bit About Me:
I live with Bipolar Type II and am a complex trauma survivor.
I value authenticity, humor, and depth in every session.
I love navigating life’s nuances and grey spaces—even when it’s challenging.
Like you, I overthink, intellectualize, and wrestle with perfectionism.
I’ve journeyed through deep hopelessness and emerged more colorful than ever. I also love boundaries, but I’m here to challenge the idea that professionalism has to be rigid or classist. I believe in helping people break free from the notion that capitalism—or anyone else—tells you the only way to exist in this world.
My Vision:
I’m here to support you in living authentically and on your own terms. You are needed to make the world a better place, and I’d be honored to help you shine your brightest. Let’s work together to create a space where your true self can flourish.
The Technical Stuff (AKA Proof I Know What I’m Doing):
I got my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University in 2022 and have been working with clients since 2021. I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) in Washington and have been EMDR-trained since 2022.
When it comes to therapy, I pull from a mix of approaches that just make sense for deep, meaningful work. I’m influenced by psychodynamic, humanistic, multicultural, and feminist theories. In terms of modalities, I work with EMDR (obvi), parts work, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Basically, I blend science, self-exploration, and a little bit of magic to help you process, heal, and step into your most authentic self.
Why the name Queer of Cups?
Queer of cups is a direct reference to the tarot card the Queen of Cups. The Queen of Cups represents a nurturing, compassionate form of introspection. She is in a collaborative relationship with her internal seas and is in flow with her intuition. She represents my highest self as a counselor and the process I want to help my clients engage in. I added the word ‘Queer’ to represent my own nonbinary gender identity and to be bold in declaring my practice as a space for other queer and trans people.
This picture is of the Queen of Cups from the first tarot deck I ever purchased for myself over 6 years ago, The Unicorn Tarot. She sits atop my altar accompanied by a clear quartz which I use to cleanse my deck between readings, a lepidolite which aids in relieving anxiety and a celestite which helps engage with the higher self. She is also accompanied by a bundle of Mugwort which helps us connect to spirit, intuition and dreams. Overlooking her is my Unicorn statue which represents my version of Divinity which I call “Uni” which also stands for Universe.
