Reclaiming Your Energy in a Politically Turbulent World
It’s not just the last four years or the next four years that you’re dealing with, it’s a lifetime living under the trauma of systemic oppression. Whether it’s recent conservative wins that have you feeling completely freaked, or you’re finally tapped out after decades of trying to live in or make change in a system that wasn’t built for you, Political burn out can rob you of your sense of hope, purpose and your ability to engage in the world. And let’s be clear, you are not the problem. Your nervous system is working exactly as designed. But while we all work for the hope and promise of a better more just world that doesn’t traumatize us, you need to pay your bills, or take care of your kids, or simply find a way to exist with dignity and joy in your life. I believe it is possible individually and collectively to reclaim our energy . Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed by the constant demand to have the right opinion, or the impossibility of helping every person who needs help, you deserve a space to process and heal. Yes even “in these times”. I offer both 1:1 therapy and a supportive community group to help you navigate these challenges.
The Struggles of Political Burnout
Political burnout is not just fatigue; it’s the impact of unresolved and ongoing grief, anxiety and rage. It’s an emotional and psychological exhaustion that can leave you feeling disconnected and powerless. Many of my clients share common experiences such as:
Emotional Overload: Constant exposure to crisis narratives and polarizing rhetoric can trigger sustained feelings of grief, anger, and fear.
Loss of Agency and community: The relentless news cycle often fosters a sense of personal powerlessness, making you question if your actions can truly make a difference. You may not know who you can trust and resort to isolation to stay emotionally safe.
Uncertainty and Anxiety: The unpredictability of the actions of leadership in our country can lead to chronic stress and anxiety. This loss of control can feel like it permeates your entire life.
Existential Dread: Living in a society that prioritizes profit over people can lead you to question the meaning of your existence and the purpose of humanity at large.
Understanding these struggles is the first step toward regulation and empowerment. You’re very not alone—these challenges are common among those of us who give a shit.
A Community for Healing: The Political Anxiety Support Group
Hate to break it you (actually no, I love to break it to you) But healing doesn’t actually happen in isolation and we cannot fight fascism without community. My political anxiety support group is a space designed to honor every facet of your experience—without toxic positivity or forced optimism. Here’s what you can expect from this nurturing community (We’re so cool, I promise):
Honoring Grief, Rage, and Fear
This group is the peak “you’re not alone in this” experience and acts as a container for all those feelings that bubble up during the week that either get lost in the hustle of life, or turn into solitary sob fests that leave you feeling more alone than ever. This is a space designed for vulnerability, authenticity, humor, however you’re making it through is honored here.
Building Resilience Through Community
By sharing your story alongside others who understand the weight of this political moment you’re getting back double what you put in. The support group is more than a forum for venting—it’s a collaborative space where members offer insights, share coping strategies, and hold each other up. Each session is a little bit different depending on the group’s needs. Some sessions are unrestricted share sessions and some sessions we work with prompts, or pull cards or share resources.
Low cost/virtual access to community care
We meet every other Monday via zoom and this group is by donation 5-30$ sliding scale per session (or you can come for free if you need to). Join us!
Personalized 1:1 Therapy: A Tailored Approach to Healing
My sessions might feel like you’re talking to a friend, one who really gets you and knows how to validate your experiences. But the work we are doing is much deeper. Below are just a few of the ways we may address political burn out in talk therapy:
Setting Boundaries to Protect Your Energy
If you’re politically burnt out you may have an all permeating sense of resentment that spreads from the state of the world to the way your partner breathes when they sleep. Together we will help you set boundaries with your time, your media consumption, your conservative relatives, your effort and your attention. And here’s a hint: if there’s no space for fun in your life there probably isn’t space for activism either. With clear boundaries in place, you’ll create more space to invest in the work and life you care about.
Cultivating Emotional Regulation
No I am not talking about turning you into a super zen robot who feels completely detached from the circumstances of the world we are living in. Rather I’m here to help you create space to deeply process the barrage of emotions that you don’t have time for, (that turn into apathy or anxiety) so that you can do the same in the rest of your life. I want to help you tap into emotions that feel stuck and use compartmentalization to help you take breaks and keep yourself sane. It’s a balance—one that we will work to strike imperfectly.
Addressing Existential Concerns and Spiritual Reconnection
Let me guess: you’ve been keeping yourself as busy as possible during the day only to go to bed and be flooded with thoughts about your purpose, why humanity is here, what even is your place in the universe? It’s normal in the face of tragedy and crisis to experience existential dread, but left to fester we can start to feel totally spiritually disconnected. The existential dread turns into existential panic, existential depression. Together we can help you turn toward these themes and find your way back to yourself. Whether you’re reconnecting with a familiar spiritual practice or discovering a new pathway, this process can open doors to renewed meaning and inner strength.
Integrative Techniques: Tarot and Astrology (and so much more)
For those who are interested I am happy to bring spiritual content into the room with us. I’ve been working with tarot and astrology for over a decade and am happy to incorporate these tools into session and others including Reiki. Wherever your spirit is drawn these practices can serve as opportunity for reflection, meaning making and ritual, all things that are essential to our sanity.
