Meet Your Therapist:
Emerald Fitzpatrick

How I got started

I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology and Gender Studies from Eastern Washington University in 2014 and graduated with my my Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University in 2022. I received my LMHCA license from Washington State in September of 2022.

My approach

I offer both traditional talk therapy as well as a trauma healing modality called EMDR. My talk therapy approach is client centered and grounded in psychodynamic, existential, multicultural and feminist theories. This means I think our past and things out of our awareness are important as is our process of making meaning. I believe systemic oppression creates real barriers to mental health and I want to help my clients find their agency while respecting all aspects of their identities. With EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) I offer clients a more structured and potentially time limited option to heal past trauma and develop new positive beliefs about the self, the world, and the spirit. My EMDR services are also available as supplemental therapy for those already working with a talk therapist.

How a session with me feels

Clients often tell me that sessions with me feel similar to talking with a friend, one who really gets them and who can authentically validate their experiences. I’m mostly non-directive but will happily offer suggestions and help you solve problems when needed. Just like gender and sexuality, my process is fluid. I value humor and authenticity and welcome questions about myself, jokes, memes, and moments of levity in the therapeutic process

What you’ll gain from talk therapy sessions: Clarity, Depth, Support

While no therapist can guarantee results, clients often leave a talk therapy session feeling “untangled”, with greater clarity about their issues and deeper appreciation for the depth of their human experience. They leave session feeling seen, cared for and with the knowledge that they have options.

What you’ll gain from EMDR sessions: Relief, New Insights, Nervous System Regulation

And if you’re looking for a targeted and structured approach to address specific mental health symptoms than EMDR is for you. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an empirically supported treatment that is useful for a variety of issues related to past trauma, anxiety, self esteem issues, body image, stress etc. EMDR involves a client intentionally focusing on difficult memories, emotions and sensations and utilizing bilateral stimulation in the form of eye movements and/or tapping to help create integration in the nervous system, new neural pathways and positive insights. I often refer to EMDR as “Evidenced Based Witchcraft” as its very similar to many types of spiritual journey work. Its also a beautiful way to heal your intuition during or after a difficult time in your life.

How Does Your Sliding Scale Work?

I use a three tiered system for my sliding scale rates

Tier 1: 100$ per session

Tier 2: 135$ per session

Tier 3 (full price): 165$ per session

My sliding scale is available to anyone who needs it. Sliding scale spots are offered on a first come first serve basis. No proof of income required. Everyone has their own relationship to their resources and each client has the autonomy to decide where on my sliding scale they can afford.
